TRINITY BRIDGE
Connecting Suvorovskaya Square with the Kamennoostrovsky Prospect, the modernist styled Trinity Bridge serves as an important transportation artery in the center of the city between Admiralty Island and the Petrograd Side and is considered to be one of the most expressive bridges in the city boasting stunning floor lamps and obelisks. The third permanent non-floating bridge across the Neva River after the Lieutenant Schmidt and Palace Bridges, the Trinity Bridge was built between 1897 and 1903 to the project of the French firm "Batignolles" that decided to construct a ten-part bridge 582 meters long and 23,6 meters wide with permanent sections, symmetrically designed according to the width of the river and the drawbridge section which was made into a one-winged bascule mechanism. The bridge, offering stunning views on Peter-and-Paul Fortress, also features exquisite railings, the triple-spanned arcade ingeniously blending in with the parapets of the granite walls of the Petrovskaya embankment and the granite icebreaker ledge with lantern installed for supporting the raising span of the bridge and serving as a unique lighthouse beacon for approaching vessels. The Trinity Bridge boasts candelabras decorated with the emblem of St. Petersburg and two impressive pyramid-like obelisks made of two different sorts of granite and decorated at their foundations with four-sided platforms, which support the framework of the round lamps.
